Diane Cilento, Sean Connery’s ex-wife, dies

Actress Diane Cilento, Sean Connery’s former wife, has died at age 78, according to news reports from Australia, such as Cairns.com.au.

Cilento was married to Connery from 1962 to 1973, which included the years when the couple faced strains from Connery’s fame as James Bond. That pressure was particularly intense in 1966, during on-location filming for You Only Live Twice, which would be released in the summer of the following year.

Filming of the fifth Bond movie stirred high interest in Japan and there was conflict when the star tried to protect his privacy. Cilento was with Connery and she ended up doing some uncredited double work, as told in the John Cork-directed documentary Inside You Only Live Twice. That part of the story begins at the 4:56 mark:

Cilentro career had many highlights having nothing to do with her husband, including movies such as Tom Jones (which earned her an Academy Award nomnation for best supporting actress), The Agony And The Ecstasy and Hombre. You can check out her career credits AT IMDB.COM.
