Documentary about Craig 007 films in the offing

Daniel Craig in Skyfall

A documentary about the Daniel Craig era of James Bond films has been produced, it was announced at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

MoMA held an event where the documentary was referenced.

Marcos Kontze, webmaster of the James Bond Brasil website, published a post on Twitter that included a short video.

According to that post, the documentary titled Being James Bond would include Craig’s screen test for 2006’s Casino Royale, the first of his five Bond films. The Arts Commented blog had another post on Twitter that said the event included a short clip from the documentary.

There were no details how soon the documentary would be available.

Spy Command participates in two podcasts

The Spy Command was part of two podcasts in the past week.

The Spybrary podcast on July 31 featured an interview with me. Host Shane Whaley asked for my “dead drop five.”

I named a combination of TV shows and books, including The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible (the original TV series), and From Russia With Love novel and film as a joint entry. I also listed the Matt Helm series of serious novels (as opposed to the Dean Martin movies).

Shane and I have discussed this possibility for more than a year and it was fun to get it done. Shane also wants me to host a panel about U.N.C.L.E. in the future.

The Spybrary host followed up with an Aug. 5 podcast reviewing The Removers, the third Matt Helm novel by Donald Hamilton. It was one of the titles I had discussed on the July 31 podcast.

Meanwhile, James Bond & Friends, produced by the MI6 James Bond website, is back with episode 0020, which came out on Aug. 6. This edition includes a new guest, Marcos Kontze of the James Bond Brasil website. I was there as well along with David Leigh of The James Bond Dossier, Ben Williams of MI6 Confidential as well as MI6 founders Paul Atkinson and James Page. A description from the MI6 website:

Observing the passing of David Hedison – two time Felix Leiter – we note how he became the first man to return to the role some 10 years later with the long-serving ally’s pivotal role in ‘Licence to Kill’. We continue by discussing Leiter and Bond’s relationship and how the re-casting has lead to some inconsistent characterisation. Along the way, we stumble on Leiter’s drinking habits, Felix’s faux pas, his Kennedy impersonation, Jack Lord’s moisturiser, Felicia Leiter, big livers, the martini olive scam, an ill-fated fishing trip, Le Chiffre’s undead exit, rewrites whilst boozing, and the Leiterverse.

Fake Eon invitation makes its way around the internet

Image made by Marcos Kontze, complete with misspelling of Pinewood Studios (“Pinweood”).

Marcos Kontze, editor of the James Bond Brasil website, came up with a bit of wishful thinking — an image of an Eon Productions invitation for a May 11 press conference at Pinewood Studios.

He posted one image on the message board of the MI6 James Bond website. He posted another on Twitter. “In desperate need for official news. I created this, wishing it could be true,” he wrote in his post on Twitter. The make-believe invitation is for the introduction of Bond 25’s director and title as well as revealing the “new studio” for the film.

There was a flaw in the image. It misspelled Pinewood as “Pinweood.” Despite that, it flew around the internet today, showing up in various places.

It may have influenced an Italian website called Talky Movie. According to a Google Translate translations of THIS POST, “The production would have convened the international press on 11 May at the historic Pinewood Studios in London to unveil the title of ‘Bond 25’ to the world. The event as reported on the web would participate all producers, primarily Barbara Broccoli, but also the new director Danny Boyle and the protagonist Daniel Craig…We’ll see if it’s a montage released on the net or if there is actually some announcement.”

James Bond Brasil is one of the most trafficked 007-related websites. In 2012, it got ahold of some Skyfall call sheets, something that caused a stir at time. In 2015, Mr. Kontze had photos taken of himself with SPECTRE crew members, including director Sam Mendes.
