Argylle to get theatrical release, THR says

Henry Cavill

Argylle, a spy adventure made by director Matthew Vaughn and starring Henry Cavill, will receive a theatrical release in early 2024 before being streamed on Apple’s streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film will be released in theaters via Universal on Feb. 2, 2024, THR reported.

Vaughn has long had an interest in spy stories. His primary accomplishment is the Kingsman series of movies, featuring an independent spy agency.

In 2004, Vaughn was reported to be in talks to direct a movie version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. That didn’t happen and an U.N.C.L.E. movie didn’t come out until 2015, with Cavill in the cast. Vaughn directed 2011’s X-Men: First Class, which included Michael Fassbender engaging in some James Bond-style tropes as the future Magneto.

Cavill was considered to play Bond in 2005, losing out to Daniel Craig. Besides the 2015 U.N.C.L.E. film, he played a villain in 2018’s Mission: Impossible Fallout.

The Argylle cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, and Samuel L. Jackson.
