Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of Eon Productions are scheduled to receive the Irving G. Thalberg award for lifetime achievement by producers, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today.
The Eon duo will receive the award on Nov. 17 at the academy’s Governors Awards event.
The Thalberg award used to be part of the Oscars. Albert R. Broccoli received the Thalberg award during the 1982 Oscars, with Roger Moore presenting the Eon co-founder the award during the show.
In recent years, the academy moved to tighten the Oscars shows by moving the Thalberg award, honorary Oscars and other awards to a separate event. Also, the Thalberg award isn’t given out every year. The last time a Thalberg was given out was in 2018 when Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy received it.
“The selection of Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli is a testament to their success as producers of the fan-favorite Bond series and their contribution to the industry’s theatrical landscape,” the academy said in a statement.
Wilson, 82, is Albert R. Broccoli’s stepson. Barbara Broccoli, who turns 64 this month, is his daughter. The duo became the credited producers of Eon’s James Bond films starting with GoldenEye.
